Knock knock. Who’s there? The Samsung Galaxy S4! Who isn’t there? Security feature Samsung Knox, which has been delayed.
Knox is the security software that separates your work stuff from your personal stuff on your phone. It was planned to come built in to the S4, but plans have changed: the New York Times reports that Knox has been knocked back for more testing, and could turn up in July.
Knox is designed to woo business users by providing Fort Knox-level security for your business information and accounts. All your work stuff is kept separate from your personal stuff, and your IT department can remotely control or even wipe the data should your phone be stolen or you defect to a rival superpower with just your phone and a suitcase of cash.
Having conquered the consumer market with the S3, S2 and a slew of Galaxy smart phones using Android software, Samsung is eying up the business user too.
Traditionally business has been the preserve of BlackBerry, which is well-known for its security. But BlackBerry’s standing among the suit-and-tie crowd has taken a knock in recent years, thanks to an embarrassing outage, and the BYOD (bring your own device) phenomenon, where workers put their work email on their iPhone, Android phone or other consumer phone.
As Samsung moves towards business types, BlackBerry has moved towards wooing consumers — and both have met in the middle with the same solution. BlackBerry Balance in BlackBerry 10 is a similar idea to Samsung Knox, separating work and personal data on the same phone.
It may have its knockers for looking exactly like the S3, but the S4 is still a heck of a phone. Check out our pick of the best deals here, or hit play on our video to see what all the fuss is about with this quad-core high definition powerhouse:
