Time to give iOS 7 a try. The clever folks at British phone blog Recombu have come up with a way for you to try out the dramatically restyled Apple software for the iPhone.
It’s not a preview that you can load up on your phone and it doesn’t include all the finished transitions between screens, but the simulator does give you a rough idea of what your phone will look like with iOS 7’s new icons and new features.
To start off, you can slide to unlock anywhere on the screen, instead of the current bar at the bottom of the screen, or click on the camera icon to go straight to the snapper. If you’re viewing in Firefox or Chrome, the simulator actually works with your computer’s webcam, with the camera’s new filters also on offer.
Slide up from the bottom to see a quick menu of shortcuts and handy options, such as quickly turning your Wi-Fi on or off. Slide down from the top to see the new-style notifications, or click on the icons to have a look at the updated design of each app.
When iOS 7 arrives properly, there’s likely to be other new features unveiled — perhaps even the
secret settings recently unearthed in the beta version.
If you want to try out iOS 7 on your phone, register as a developer with Apple and you can download the beta version to your iPhone 5. Other iPhones and iPads will see the iOS 7 update in the autumn.
What do you think of the new-look iOS 7? What’s your favourite new feature — and what’s still missing? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.
