We’ve already had a glimpse of what could be the Galaxy S4 Zoom, but now what appears to be a proper press picture has surfaced online, showing off the device’s optical zoom lens. Which you’d expect it to have, with a name like that.
The image comes courtesy of SamMobile. But that’s not all. Over at TechTastic, someone’s got their hands on the device, and has papped it a couple of times up close.
The look isn’t a million miles away from the Samsung Galaxy Camera, except the S4 Zoom doubles as a phone. If these shots are genuine, the mobile will have a dedicated shutter button on the side, as well as volume buttons to activate the optical zoom. That screen looks to be around the 4.3 inches we’ve heard about before, too.
There’s even a tripod mount, for propping it up and taking steady shots.
Samsung should make the S4 Zoom official at an event on 20 June. The handset showed up at the Bluetooth SIG for accreditation, and earned its stripes at the FCC last week. It should sport a 16-megapixel camera (to the standard S4‘s 13-), have the aforementioned smaller screen, with 8GB of storage and a microSD card slot. Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is also said to be in the picture.
Whether it’ll be any cop remains to be seen. Samsung announced the S4 Mini recently, but with much worse specs, it seemed a shameless attempt to cash-in on the S4’s name. Let’s hope the S4 Zoom isn’t the same.
The S4 Active — a waterproof S4 — was also announced this week, and could hit shop shelves as soon as 1 July.
