The next Nexus 7 tablet, the Nexus 7 II, is so close we can almost taste it — and we can at the very least see it, in what appears to be an official picture.
The leaked snap shown off by EVleaks shows the front and back of the hotly-tipped new tablet, revealing a camera on the back for the first time. The new 5-megapixel snapper for proper photos joins the 1.2-megapixel camera on the front, for hi-def video calls.
The back of the 7-inch slate is also smooth, rather than the textured surface of the current model.
There’s no official details yet, but word on the street says the new generation of the bargain-tastic tablet will pack a quad-core chip with RAM bumped up to 4GB. We’re expecting the Nexus 7 II to come in 16GB and 32GB versions, with a 4G model also on the cards.
The original Nexus 7 sets a benchmark for wallet-friendliness, and the 7 II is set to continue that — previous rumours peg the new models at around £150 and £180 in the US.
If the leaked photo is indeed an official snap, then the Nexus 7 II can’t be far off. In fact, Google is holding a mystery event on 24 July, which we’re expecting to be the unveiling of Android 4.3 — and if so, the Nexus 7 II is likely to be the flagship device showcasing the new software.
