Transfer data from iPhone to HTC One using HTC Sync Manager

Transferring data from an iPhone to an Android device isn’t all that straightforward in most cases. Granted, users are likely to use iCloud, Google, or another cloud service to store personal information such as contacts and calendars. But what about those who don’t use a cloud service, or those who want to easily transfer photos, videos, and even wallpaper from an iPhone to their new Android device?

Well, if you’ve opted for the HTC One, you’ll only need a few minutes and a computer with iTunes installed to get your data from your iPhone to your new One.

To get started, you’ll need to install HTC Sync Manager. It’s a free program from HTC that’s included on your HTC One (connect it via USB to your computer to install) or you can download it from HTC’s Web site.

Once the software is installed and running, with your One connected to your computer, click on More and then the iPhone TRANSFER option just below the top menu. You’ll be prompted to back up your iPhone using iTunes on the same computer. This doesn’t have to be the same computer you normally back up on, so long as it has the latest version of iTunes installed. Connect your iPhone to the computer, select “This computer,” deselect the option to encrypt the backup if it’s selected, and click on Back Up Now.

After the backup is complete, disconnect the iPhone and reconnect the HTC One to the computer. HTC Sync Manager should automatically find all iPhone backup files and list them in chronological order. Select the most recent backup, and click on OK.

Next select from the listed categories: Contacts, Calendar, Messages, Camera Roll, Wallpaper, and Bookmarks. You can opt to have the sync replace all current content on the HTC One, or just merge any synced items. Click Start when you’re ready to begin syncing the selected items to your One.

Immediately after clicking on Start you’ll be redirected back to the landing page for HTC Sync Manager. You may think the process is already finished and you can disconnect your phone and go on about your day. Wrong! If you look in the lower-right hand corner of the screen, you’ll see the current progress for the sync. Do not disconnect your device until this has finished.

HTC has made it very simple for Android and iPhone users alike to transfer content and data over to the HTC One. There’s even an option (under Transfer content in Settings on the HTC One) to use Bluetooth to transfer directly from an iPhone to the One, but I couldn’t get it working. I was able to successfully transfer content from an iPhone backup to the One, however.
