Want a brand new smart phone but don’t have £500 to splurge on the latest technological marvel? We sympathise. But take heart, because these days there are some cracking mobiles available to bargain-hunters. Click play on the video above to see five recent Android smart phones that can be yours for under £150.

When shopping for a cheap smart phone, there are a few things you’ll want to keep an eye out for.

One of the most important is screen resolution — 480×800 is a reasonable pixel count for a bargain blower, but a lower resolution than this could lead to blurry icons and cluttered on-screen action, so be aware.

It’s also wise to find a phone that offers expandable storage via a microSD card. This’ll let you bump up the on-board capacity, making room for music, photos, videos and the like. Some phones don’t let you install apps onto a removable card, so check how much usable space there is on the phone if you’re planning on downloading bulky game apps, for instance.

A dual-core processor with a clock speed of over 1GHz will help keep the operation of the phone pacy, and keep an eye out for a recent version of Android too, as this will minimise the risk of finding apps that aren’t compatible with your smart phone.

Most importantly, nothing beats actually wrapping your digits around a phone and making your own mind up, so get down to a phone shop and try some mobiles out for yourself, or borrow a mate’s and see if it tickles your fancy.

Don’t forget — if you can’t find any Android phones that you like, you may want to examine a cheap Windows Phone like the Nokia Lumia 520 or Lumia 620.
