iPhone 5S, 5C, Galaxy S4 and HTC One UK prices compared

A new raft of iPhones is upon us! The iPhone 5S, with its gold-coloured metal back, and the cheaper, plastic iPhone 5C. But how do these new models compare against the top Android phones, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One?

The iPhone 5C is the cheaper of the two, starting at £469 for the 16GB model or £549 for the 32GB version. The 5S is available in 16, 32 and 64GB options, for £549, £629 and £709, respectively. Neither of them are what you’d call cheap.

By comparison, you can pick up the powerhouse Samsung Galaxy S4, also SIM-free, from Carphone Warehouse for £550, for the 16GB model. While that’s pricier than the 5C, it’s the same price as the comparable iPhone 5S. For a true bargain though, the HTC One is the way to go.

It’s available for £490, SIM-free, for the 32GB model, undercutting both the 5S and the supposedly ‘affordable’ 5C in the comparable 32GB capacity. The HTC One isn’t available in a 16GB option though, so you can still save a few quid there if storage isn’t important.

Apple has given the existing iPhone 4S a smaller capacity option with its new 8GB variant. This new chap will set you back £349. While that’s cheaper than all three, it is now a rather outdated piece of hardware. Still, if you really want to stick with Apple and you don’t have much cash to chuck around, it’s definitely worth a look.

None of the networks have yet announced their price plans, so we’ll have to wait and see if there’s a bargain to be had. All the new iPhones will be available on 20 September.
