Sony’s next smart phone will be frighteningly thin and painted a royal purple — if a leaked promo image is anything to go by.
The image above, which was spied by XperiaBlog and surfaced at Chinese-language site digi-wo.com, appears to be a teaser for a new Sony smart phone.
The date on the graphic teases a 4 September reveal in Berlin, which makes sense, as that’s precisely when Sony has scheduled a press conference, at Germany’s IFA trade show.
While the picture certainly looks like a credible promo image, you’d be wise to take any unofficial leaks with a pinch or two of salt — especially as the phone in the picture above looks a little different to these snaps published several weeks ago by Gadgethelpline.
Sony’s next flagship phone is tipped to be called the Xperia i1, code named ‘Honami’. The phone is expected to pack modern conveniences such as a quad-core processor, along with a 20-megapixel camera that could be capable of shooting video at a whopping 4K resolution.
Precisely what you’d do a 4K video once you’d filmed it I’m not sure, but it’s certainly an interesting notion. A ‘Timeshift burst’ mode that lets you choose the best frame from a series of burst shots is expected to make an appearance too.
Sony’s most recent mobile is the Xperia Z Ultra, a 6.3-inch mobile monolith that in turn follows the Xperia Z, a 5-inch smart phone that impressed us with its slick performance and excellent camera.
Both phones are waterproof for shooting bathtime selfies, and I’d expect Sony’s next mobile to be equally adept underwater.
