BBM for Android and iPhone is here — except it ain’t. BlackBerry accidentally announced the hotly anticipated BlackBerry Messenger for Android and iOS before the app was ready.
The message ‘BBM for Android and iPhone is here’ appeared on the page advertising the new app, but the links to download BBM didn’t work. False alarm, guys!
The page has now swiftly returned to the previous message, reading ‘BBM is coming to Android and iPhone.’
Erstwhile BlackBerry Messengers are counting the days until they can get back into BBM after jumping ship to an alternative Android or Apple phone. The app will launch with chat features including group chat. Voice calls, video chat and screen sharing will follow later.
The Android app will arrive on Samsung Galaxy phones in Africa first. It can’t be far off: BlackBerry staff are testing the app with friends and family, while the user guides leaked online recently.
Will you come back to BlackBerry Messenger when it hits your Android or iPhone? Is BlackBerry killing the only reason to actually buy a BlackBerry? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook wall.
