Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 UK prices and release dates

Microsoft has lifted the lid on two new tablets — the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2. But how much will they cost, and when can you get your mitts on one?

Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 prices

The Surface 2 runs a scaled-down version of Windows 8.1, and as a result it’s a bit cheaper. Microsoft has told us that the 32GB option costs £359, while there’s also a 64GB model that’ll set you back £439.

As for the Pro 2, which lets you install software from places other than Microsoft’s own-brand app store, you have a few more options — but all of them are pricey.

The 64GB Pro 2 costs £719, and the 128GB model costs £799. There’s a 256GB option that will demand £1,039 of your Great British Pounds, and a 512GB version that will cost an eye-watering £1,439.

For that money you could have your pick of top-of-the-line laptops, so we’ll be eyeing the Pro 2’s performance very carefully when it’s time for the full review.

Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 release date

Update: Microsoft has now confirmed the UK release date for both tablets is 22 October — the same date they’re on sale in the US. Original story follows:

Both tablets arrive stateside on 22 October — that’s about a month’s time. If Microsoft is smart it’ll try and get its new slates on sale around the world at roughly the same time, though sadly Steve Ballmer and pals don’t exactly have form in this area.

The Surface went on sale in October last year, so I’d cautiously posit that that’s roughly when we’ll see it arrive this time around too. The original Surface Pro, however, didn’t make it to the UK until May this year.

As such, we may have a wait on our hands when it comes to the Surface Pro 2. Fingers crossed Microsoft can speed things up a little though, eh?

We’ll update this story as soon as we hear any concrete UK release dates. Are you tempted to buy either tablet? Let me know in the comments or on our Facebook wall.
