Report: Google Nexus 5 and Android KitKat set for 15 October

The Google Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat are less than a week away, according to new rumours. These say that the new phone and next Android update will explode onto the scene together on 15 October — next Tuesday.

That date comes from whispers around the campfire at Google Launchpad, a fortnight-long event run by the Big G for helping start-ups to develop their business. However, with no formal press event scheduled on 15th, it could just be the usual idle speculation that flows around every major phone launch.

At Google Launchpad, developers have been served lashings of Key Lime Pie — the planned name for the next update — and KitKat bars — which lent their name to the update at the last minute.

The new 5-inch Nexus smart phone will be revealed by Google very soon, but the actual release date when you can buy the thing remains to be seen. The price is rumoured to be south of £250 in Europe, but the final price tag is yet to be confirmed.

The current Google Nexus 4 has sold out, meaning the new Nexus 5 will hopefully take its place soon.

Right, I’m off for a KitKat Chunky. What do you want to see in the new Android update? Let me know in the comments, or on our sweet-toothed Facebook page.
