With the hotly anticipated Nexus 5 and Nexus 10 hogging the headlines, the Google Nexus 7 must have felt left out — but now one retailer has slashed its price by 10 per cent to tussle with the Tesco Hudl in the cut-throat budget tablet market.
Despite only being in shops for just over a month, the 16GB version of the new Nexus has been slashed by a retailer on Play.com to £180, down from £199.
On the official Android online store Google Play, the Nexus 7 is still £199. The 32GB model costs £240 and the 4G version is £299.
Even without the £19 price cut, the Nexus 7 is still more than a ton cheaper than its new 7-inch rival, the £319 iPad mini with retina display. Even the older iPad mini still costs £239. But the Nexus 7’s position as the best value tablet is under threat from rivals such as the £119 Hudl.
Since the new 7-inch Nexus 7 was announced, we’ve been waiting with bated breath for new versions of the rest of the Nexus line-up. The new Nexus 10 is reported to see Samsung replaced by Asus as the manufacturer of the 10-inch tablet, while the heavily rumoured Nexus 5 is set to add an inch to last year’s Nexus 4.
When the new devices do launch, the Nexus 7 should join them in boasting the long-awaited next version of Android, 4.4 KitKat.
