Nokia’s given its cheapest, best value Lumia phone a new look and a smidge more power. The Lumia 525 is a gussied-up version of the best-selling Lumia 520, adding new colours to its range of swappable covers — just like classic Nokias — and 1GB of RAM.
That doubles the 520’s rather meagre 512MB and should help it cope with more strenuous apps. Inside is the same dual-core 1GHz processor and 8GB of storage, although you can expand on that with a 64GB microSD card.
The new covers, which will cost extra, are available in orange, yellow and white.
My CNET Asia colleague Aloysius Low had a quick hands-on with the 525 today — you can read his first take here.
Its 4-inch 800×480-pixel screen won’t bowl anyone over, but it worked fine with its Windows Phone software on the 520.
Nokia says it won’t be available in the UK, but we’ll let you know if it changes its mind — online retailers may import it anyway. Currently it’s available in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
We absolutely loved the Lumia 520, which cut all the right corners in keeping its price tag under £150. It didn’t have a front-facing camera and its battery was a bit pants, but it had all of Nokia’s brilliant apps and was built like a tank.
