If your new year’s resolution is a new look, you’re not the only one: leaked photos suggest the Google Nexus 5 is reinventing itself too with a selection of new colours.
A leaked video posted by PhoneArena appears to show the Nexus 5’s Google Play listing with a choice of rich dark red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple colours for the phone’s case.
Of course, they may just be a quick Photoshop mock-up by an over-eager phone fan. Google declined to comment.
But if real, the new colours do point towards a nascent trend in the world of phones, towards customisation over innovation as a selling point. Motorola — owned by Google, lest we forget — makes a big deal of the fact you can customise the look of your Moto X before you buy with Moto Maker (if you’re in the US, anyway) while Nokia is not only draping its Lumia smart phones in bright colours, it’s giving you a range of different coloured shells too. With even flagship phones, once offering a choice of black, white, black or black turning up in red and gold and who knows what, custom colour could be the next big thing.
The Nexus 5 boasts cutting-edge KitKat software, a Full HD screen and quad-core power — quite a bargain at £300 for the 16GB model.
If you already own a Nexus 5 smart phone or Nexus 7 tablet, you can treat it to a new look with 25 per cent off cases, sleeves and bumpers on Google Play.
