U.S. Cellular launches $50 no

On Friday, regional carrier U.S. Cellular took the wraps off a new no-contract plan. The $50 monthly charge gets customers unlimited calling, text messages, and Web access.

For now, the plan applies to the Kyocera Hydro XTRM and Samsung Galaxy Axiom ($130 each with rebates) and the Motorola Moto X ($300 with rebates,) all LTE phones. The ZTE Director ($50), is the most budget offering, and the only one without LTE.

U.S. Cellular says it will expand the plan to include more LTE-ready phones down the line.
