Motorola Moto G gets stock Android Google Edition, not UK

The Motorola Moto G now has a Google Play Edition. The budget smart phone now comes with stock Android software just like Google’s own Nexus 5, only cheaper. The one drawback is that it’s not available in the UK.

The
Moto G Google Play Edition, available now from the Android online store in certain countries, features pure, unadulterated Android 4.4 software, shorn of Motorola’s extras and add-ons. It costs $179 in the US, roughly £110.

It follows stock Android Google Play editions of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4. They’re not available to British phone fans either. Click play on our video below to see the Google Play Editions explained:

Still, even if you can’t enjoy the Google Edition of the wallet-friendly phone, you can still enjoy KitKat as the update to Android 4.4.2 has now started in the UK. The update adds full-screen mode, beefed-up security, and smarter power use so your battery doesn’t run down as fast and your processor doesn’t have to work as hard, and new features such as photo editing tools.

Costing just £130, the Moto G packs in plenty of value for money with a 720p screen, 5-megapixel camera, and a quad-core processor — enough in fact for our intrepid CNET reviewer Andy to name the Moto G as his favourite gadget of the year.

Meanwhile, Motorola also this week announced the Moto X is coming to the UK.
