Sony’s got stock of its tasty new quad-core slate, the Xperia Z2 Tablet, on its UK site. The new 10-inch tablet will set you back a hefty £399, but if you order before next Monday, 24 March, you can bag an extended three-year warranty for just a penny extra.
The Z2 Tablet — not to be confused with the Xperia Z2, which is Sony’s flagship phone this year — has a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, a mighty 3GB of RAM and a Full HD display.
Hewn from a single chunk of aluminium, the Z2 Tablet is waterproof, continuing Sony’s admirable run of products you can take in the bath.
£399 buys you the Wi-Fi-only version with 16GB of storage. You can add 4G LTE for £100, or an extra 16GB of storage for £50, but not both. As well as the three-year guarantee, Sony offers free delivery and 0 per cent financing.
It runs the latest version of Android, 4.4.2 KitKat, and comes with all of Sony’s extra music and video gubbins preloaded. You can even wirelessly connect a PS3 controller and play games on Sony’s PlayStation Mobile store.
With pricing on a par with Apple’s iPad Air, it’s clear Sony’s aiming for the top end of the market. If you’re after something a little less costly, the Tesco Hudl is a 7-inch Android tablet with a robust kid-proof design that’ll only delete £119 from your account. If you’re more keen on a 10-inch slate, Google’s 16GB Nexus 10 is currently £339, but rumours persist of an updated version.
