You may have noticed your Lumia device randomly displaying the current time and notification thumbnails when your device is in standby. This feature, called Lumia Glance, allows for you to simply “glance” over and view important information, forgoing the requirement to unlock your device.
The default setting for Glance is always on, but you can change and customize how it works to better suit your workflow.
What you’ll need to do is launch the Settings app on your device, then scroll to the very bottom of the list. Find and select the “Glance” listing a few items from the bottom.
Once in Glance settings, you have a few options. The first is selecting when you want Glance to activate. You can have it always on (chews through your battery), interval (turns off after 15 minutes), peek, or off. Once you select an option, a brief description will be displayed just underneath the button. Peek is my preferred setting.
Unlike the first two options, peek doesn’t leave the screen on for extended amounts of time. Instead, you place your hand just above the phone and the screen lights up, displaying the time and alerts. After being on for a few seconds, the screen turns back off.
You can also customize what information is displayed, from just the time, to notifications, to personal text.
And last but not least, you can customize the color of the text for night viewing. The benefit of this is twofold: the darker colors don’t hurt your eyes, and your bedroom isn’t lit up from the white text.
Do you use Glance? If so, what’s your preferred setting?
