Take note, anyone who’s shopping for a smartphone but doesn’t have hundreds of pounds going spare — Nokia’s Lumia 630 will hit the UK in a little over a week, for less than £90.

The Lumia 630 sports a 4.5-inch display with a 854×480 pixel resolution. That’s not as pin-sharp as some hoity-toity smartphones, but should be plenty to render on-screen action with decent clarity. There’s a 5-megapixel camera on the back too, space for two SIM-cards (potentially handy if you travel a lot) and the whole shebang is powered by Microsoft’s Window Phone 8.1 operating system.

This could well be one of the last smartphones to sport the Nokia name. With Microsoft’s acquisition of the Finnish firm’s phone division completed, the famous brand is expected to vanish.

Carphone Warehouse, EE, O2, Tesco and Amazon will all be selling the Lumia 630 from £89.95, Microsoft says. It comes in range of retina-searing colours, including orange, yellow, green, white and black.

My esteemed colleague Jessica Dolcourt has already gone hands-on with the 630 , and said in her first take that while the phone is inexpensive, it doesn’t look cheap. Fans of cheap mobiles would also be wise to examine the £149 Motorola Moto G , a powerful 4G Android phone with a very low price tag.
