Sony’s flagship Xperia Z2 smartphone is now on sale in the US, and the company is offering fast-acting customers a slight discount.

The Xperia Z2 is available now in Sony’s US-based online store for $700, $50 off its standard price of $750. The device has been making its way to various markets, including Singapore, Australia, and the UK, over the last several months.

The Xperia Z2 comes with a 5.2-inch “triluminous” LED display and a familiar black finish. Sony has packed the handset full of higher-end features, including a 20.7-megapixel camera that can record in 4K resolution. The device is also water- and dust-resistant, and comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.2GHz processor with 3G of RAM.

Sony’s mobile efforts have been slowly but surely coming along, and the Z2 is its latest competitor to devices like Apple’s iPhone 5S and Samsung’s Galaxy S5. Still, Samsung and Apple are generating the vast majority of profits in the marketplace and Sony needs to find a way to break their control.

In his plans for the company, Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai has said that mobile must play a crucial role in Sony’s plans in the coming years. The Xperia Z2 is one of the first steps in that direction.

So far, the Xperia Z2 has received rave reviews. CNET’s editors gave the device 4.5 stars out of 5 , saying that while it’s expensive, the handset has “everything you should expect from a top-end phone.”

CNET has contacted Sony for additional comment. We will update this story when we have more information.
