Google’s Android is making its way into smartwatches, cars and televisions. Today’s Update video breaks down the big announcements from the Google I/O developers’ conference:
- Google showed off its Android Wear operating system, which you’ll find in new smartwatches from LG, Motorola and Samsung. Both the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live are available for pre-order, but the round Moto 360 won’t be sold until later this summer.
- Android Auto
will transform your car’s dashboard
screen into a Google interface for maps and music, among other things. The first cars to work with Android Auto
will come out later this year. - Google is taking a third shot at set-top boxes with Android TV. But you’ll need a compatible TV or special set-top box to use it.
- New designs were revealed for the next version of Android, called Android L. But there was not a word in the three-hour presentation about Google Glass
or the Nexus 8.
