LG unveils Quick Cover phone case before G5 launch because why not

In an odd (and slightly baffling) move for any mobile company, LG announced a phone case for its upcoming marquee handset, the G5, before actually releasing the G5 itself.

The Quick Cover case features a metallic-like mesh front cover that flaps over the display and includes a small window to allow users to see incoming notifications. You can also interact with the screen (such as answering and declining calls) even when the cover is closed.

While the phone accessory is not very compelling, photos provided by LG of the case offer a small glimpse of the G5 (albeit the phone itself is mostly covered). The device appears to hit the big-screen 5.5- to 5.7-inch size bracket and it has rounder corners than its predecessor.

The announcement of the Quick Cover case comes hours after the Korea-based company posted a teaser promo for the device on Facebook. In it, LG suggests the G5 has a screen that is “always on.”
