Buy a Google Chromecast, get some Play

One of the cheapest media streamers around gets a little cheaper for the holidays — sort of.

Google is currently offering up $20 in Google Play credit when you buy one of its Chromecast streamers for $35. If you were already planning to blow some cash on movies or TV shows to stream, you can look at it as getting an already dirt-cheap wireless video dongle for $15.

The Chromecast streams Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, Pandora, HBO Now and thousands of other apps and games to your TV using an Android or Apple phone or tablet, or a PC, as the controller. It’s also very small so tucking behind your TV is no problem, and it’s great for travel. Streaming is improved over the original as well since it’s compatible with 5GHz Wi-Fi networks.

There is no remote control for the Chromecast, though, so you’ll always need a mobile device or computer, and the latter is required for streaming Amazon videos. Those are the biggest downsides, however.

The deal runs from now through January 2, 2016. Just head over to Google’s Chromecast site to redeem.
