Assassin’s Creed Syndicate came out on Friday, and one of the main characters in the adventure game has gotten a major gauntlet upgrade. In addition to the standard hidden-blade gauntlet assassins have worn throughout the game series, Jacob Frye also has a grappling-hook gauntlet that launches a rope.
British maker Colin Furze has a passion for making all sorts of wacky gadgets from movies and video games, so he partnered with Ubisoft — the game development studio behind Assassin’s Creed Syndicate — to create fully functional versions of the two assassin gauntlets in real life.

Furze released a video to his YouTube channel on Friday showing off his build in action. First up was the rope launcher, which is powered by a carbon dioxide canister. The rope launcher works, though it’s pretty slow to lift Furze into the air, so anyone brave enough to build one of their own won’t be whizzing around Victorian-era London the same way Frye does in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. But it does get the job done.
The hidden-blade gauntlet is far more useful and deadly. The blade extends and retracts at the flick of a wrist, letting Furze slice and dice his way through grain bags and sheets hanging around quickly and effectively.
In addition to the video of the gauntlets in action above, you can see some behind-the-scenes clips of how he made the gauntlets below.
The latest entry in the Assassin’s Creed series is available now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for $60 (£39.40, AU$99.95), and will be available for Windows PCs later this year.
