You know that LCD on your wall? Let me tell you something: it’s fat. Huge in fact. And it’s ugly. What on earth have you been feeding it? Pies?
That’s the wording I propose JVC uses in the advert for its ultra-thin LCD that was demoed in Athens last week. This prototype was really, really skinny. JVC wouldn’t let us take photos of it, which was a shame, so I did a sketch and measured it when I got back to the UK. By my less-than-scientific method, I’ve determined it was about 40mm deep.
I’m impressed by this slimming down. LCDs aren’t enormous now, but reducing the depth can only be a good thing, especially if you like your tech slender. The picture was also very bright, far more so than most LCD panels. No word yet on when (if ever) JVC will roll out this new type of panel, but I think it would be fantastic to further reduce the size of LCD screens. Not that I think they are especially fat now. Honest.
