Greek TV is weird. First of all, they show about a million adverts per break, including one that appeared to be an instructional film on how to carry two cups of espresso on a huge tray. After five hours, when the adverts had finished, a live game show came on. I know it was live, because in the bottom right-hand corner it said ‘LIVE’ while some pretty women danced about.
Then, from what I could tell, a man was picked from the audience at random. He stood in front of five women wearing overcoats and had to decide which of them were wearing bikinis and which were wearing one-piece swimsuits. Of course, I’m only guessing here, because my Greek is a little rusty. I suppose it’s entirely possible he was picking the ones who had PhDs in quantum physics. He didn’t look that happy, so I suspect he didn’t win.
Anyway, aside from soaking up the local culture, I’m in Athens for the JVC product showcase for 2007. Basically, it’s an event where JVC tells us what it’s going to be doing in the coming months and what exciting new technology we can expect to see. I’ll be writing about the things I’ve been inspired by in Crave over the coming days, but suffice to say, I’ve been most amazed by the DLA-HD1, JVC’s 1080p projector.
I have a feeling that guessing who’s wearing a bikini would be a lot easier using one of these. Not that I could have helped the bloke on the telly — I don’t think there was a ‘phone a visiting Brit’ option.
