Toshiba Regza 40XF355D: The slimmest LCD TV in town

LCD televisions are small, there’s no doubt about it. Especially when you compare them to those gargantuan CRT monsters we all know and love. But one thing isn’t cool about LCDs, and that’s the fatty lardarse bezel round the screen. Happily, those clever chaps at Toshiba have been working hard to make the outside edge of the new Regza 40XF355D as svelte as the rest.

That’s also not as easy as you might think, because the bezel around the LCD panel has the important job of holding the TV together and providing the structural rigidity that prevents the screen from cracking. So some considerable effort has gone into strengthening the 40XF355D’s internal chassis.

Happily, the TV still has all of the features you’d expect. It’s a 1080p panel with three HDMI sockets, 10-bit colour processing and an Onkyo speaker system to produce the best sound from a small profile cabinet. There are also component, VGA, Scart and composite inputs. Plus you’ll find both a subwoofer and optical digital outputs, to make sure you can improve on the built-in sound.

The Toshiba Regza 40XF355D will be hitting shops soon and will set you back about £1,300, which is a damn sight more than your standard LCD TV. Beauty doesn’t come cheap you know — think of all that electronic liposuction. -Ian Morris
