Sony announces launch date for Google TV on Bravia tellies

Sony will officially take the wraps off its first Google-powered television on 12 October. Google TV puts the power of the Web in your Bravia television, tying Net and set together.

We got a first look at Google TV in a demo at technology trade show IFA earlier this month. The service lets you search the Web and television schedules together, as well as putting Google Maps, YouTube and Picasa in your telly. You can bookmark television shows, as well as Web pages, customise your home screen, and keep your TV viewing in a mini window as you surf the Web.

It certainly looks like the tightest integration of Web and telly that we’ve seen so far. Other manufacturers currently offer widgets and app-like services on their IPTV systems.

The Google goggle-box will be unveiled at a launch event in New York on 12 October. Keep it Crave for all the details.
