Apple Airplay gets first streaming tomorrow at the Manchester Home Entertainment show

The Home Entertainment show in Manchester opens its doors to the public tomorrow, making way for a horde of baying audiophiles keen to get their grubby mitts on all the latest hi-fi and home entertainment tech. One of the most interesting things to be showcased will be Apple’s Airplay technology.

Here’s how it works — first spend all your cash on an Airplay-enabled component or speaker system. If you own an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or a computer running iTunes, you can then stream your music collection to that component wirelessly.

Airplay supports streaming to more than one device, so if you have a speaker setup in your living room and another in your bedroom for example, you can get the tunes pumping all through your house with ease.

It certainly sounds much easier than plugging in a bunch of cables every time you want to blast your music collection, and we’ll be keen to see how the demonstration is received. We know Denon will be handling the tech demos using a ‘specially updated AVR 3311’ AV system, but we also know brands such as Bowers & Wilkins and JBL will be getting in on the action.

The show will also feature a host of brand new A/V gear, including the latest 3DTVs, projectors and Blu-ray players from the likes of Samsung, Philips, Panasonic and Sony. Head over to the show web site for more details.
