Humax new Freeview +HD box out 18 October, for £180

Fans of free telly rejoice — Humax has a new Freeview HD box, that’ll be on sale later this week.

The HDR-2000T plugs into your TV and handles high-definition Freeview from over 50 channels, and also packs on-demand programmes from iPlayer and YouTube via Humax’s TV Portal service.

Perhaps best of all, the box lets you record shows to its 500GB hard drive. It’s packing twin-tuners, so you can record two channels at the same time, while pausing and rewinding TV is also on the cards.

Humax told me that the box will feature a revamped interface, that hopefully will make it easy to navigate to the shows and channels you’re hunting for. There’s a new design, meanwhile, which you can see in the snap above.

Humax says the box will support new software coming from Freeview. The box will handle new Freeview HD channels, which are expected to go live in 2014, and the new paid-for streaming service VuTV that will launch later this year, and feature channels like Comedy Central, MTV, History, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.

The HDR-2000T will be available to snap up from 18 October, and will cost around £180, Humax says, though the price may vary from shop to shop.

Humax has impressed us in the past with its Freeview boxes, so fingers crossed this one proves to be a hit too. Are you tempted? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.
