Netflix, the massive US-based media-streaming service, has said that the PlayStation 3 is the number one platform for anyone watching Netflix in the lounge room.

In Australia, gaming consoles are adding catch-up TV and video-on-demand services like they’re going out of style, but in the US it’s all been established for a little longer.
We’ve already seen that Netflix accounts for one third of all the peak-period downstream internet traffic in North America. Back in October, the data also suggested that the service had over 25 million subscribers in the US.
Well, it turns out that a lot of those subscribers own a PS3. On its blog, Netflix announced that the PS3 is the number one TV-connected choice for viewing Netflix, although it didn’t give out specific figures.
The blog noted that the Netflix service is available to all PS3 users, as opposed to the Xbox 360 service, wherein only Gold Xbox Live subscribers can access it.
PS3 was the first computer entertainment system to offer Netflix in full 1080p video resolution with 5.1-channel Dolby Digital Plus surround sound, and to offer post-play, second-screen controls, on-device sign-up, alternate audio options including subtitles. PS3 is currently the only platform to experience a new voice user interface called “Max” that’s currently being tested. We’ve been able to easily update these features to existing users of the application, and continue to update and test new features on a continual basis.
