Sony shows off new 4K Bravia TV models

Sony certainly seems to be banking on 4K Ultra HD taking off soon, with the company adding two new units to its growing line-up of 4K Bravia TVs.

The X8504A range is pretty much identical to the X9004A series, with one quite visible difference — the side-mounted magnetic fluid speakers are missing.

The 55-inch and 65-inch X8504A TVs instead feature an “integrated bass reflex box speaker with tweeter and assist woofer”. This certainly reduces the overall width of the TV, but we’re not sure how much of a difference it will make to the weight.

The new range still features Sony’s Triluminos display and 4K X-Reality PRO upscaling engine, so the picture should be identical to the units already on the market.

In the US, the 55-inch version of the new range costs US$3499 and the 65-inch is US$4999. Pricing and availability of the X8504A range in Australia has yet to be determined, but we’d anticipate that the units will be priced cheaper than their X9004A counterparts.
