Samsung offers free 4K movies with HU9000 purchase

Updated 3PM ET: Samsung has confirmed existing owners of the UN55HU9000, UN65HU9000 or UN78HU9000 will get the UHD pack with a proof-of-purchase.

Samsung has announced that customers who buy one of their HU9000 4K televisions will receive eight free 4K movies including World War z.

Customers who buy one of the TVs between now and June 30, 2014 the company will throw in its
which is essentially a proprietary hard drive preloaded with eight movies, and attracts a price tag of $299 on its own. Prices of the televisions start at $3500.

The eight movies include World War Z, The Counselor, Night at the Museum, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, GI Joe: Retaliation and the documentaries The Last Reef, Grand Canyon Adventure and Cappadocia. The company has yet to announce if further titles will become available.

In comparison, Sony’s FMP-X1 media player ($699) offers access to more than 200 4K movies and TV shows — starting at $7.99 for 24-hour rental and $29.99 for purchases.

The company says eligible customers will need to wait up to 12 weeks to receive their Video Pack.
