With Google’s Chromecast device finally available in Australia, the next step has been to ensure that there are some local services worth using on it.

In the US there are the usual suspects of Netflix, HBO Go, Hulu, and so forth, but in Australia we’ve mostly been running on promises. Foxtel’s Presto movie service was looking at a July timing for compatibility, Quickflix was in the “final stages of testing”, and the ABC was adding Chromecast support to iView apps “soon”.

Now EzyFlix, the video-on-demand service that launched in August last year, has said it’s the first in Australia to come through with Chromecast sharing for its app.

The compatibility is across the range of Android and iOS EzyFlix apps, as well as PC and Mac. According to EzyFlix CEO Craig White the company has been preparing for the arrival of the Chromecast in Australia for some time.

“Our technical specifications for delivery have been given the big tick by the major Hollywood studios and we have worked hard to ensure our extensive film library is fully compatible,” said White.

EzyFlix is a non-subscription service, with no monthly fees or contracts, something White feels will add to the appeal of using the app over Chromecast, especially for “tech-savvy millennials” and people who have “sidestepped” pay-TV style subscription video-on-demand offerings.
