According to Chinese regulatory approval details, the Galaxy A7 may boast an ultrathin 6.3mm chassis, which is a half millimeter thinner than the Galaxy Alpha .

First spotted by Phone Arena, the report lays out what figures to be the general hardware configuration.

Said to be running Android 4.4.4 KitKat, the Galaxy A7 could pack in a 5.5-inch 1,080p display, a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. Digging deeper, the alleged specs also include a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 1.5GHz octa-core processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

Like the Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 that CNET saw in Korea , the A7 looks like it’s shooting for the high end of midrange performance and edgier aesthetics. A member of the A series, this rumored phone should have the all-metal unibody design element introduced with the A3 and A5. Will customers warm to a new-look Samsung even if the hardware is slightly aged? We’ll have to wait to find out the answer to that one.

It isn’t clear whether this model will be exclusive to China or if Samsung might offer variants in other markets. We might assume that Samsung offers up the Galaxy A7 in its native turf of Korea, but beyond that it’s anyone’s guess.
