“Community,” the fan favourite show staring Joel McHale about life at Greendale Community College, will be coming to Australia via TV streaming service Stan.

Stan, a joint venture between Fairfax and Nine Entertainment, began operations on Australia Day, offering an array of local and international content for AU$10 a month.

The show’s latest season launches on March 17 in the US and Stan will make the first two episodes of the show available on March 18, with new episode available each week after being “fast-tracked” from the US.

“Community” was cancelled by NBC after five seasons, but was picked up by Yahoo as part of its Yahoo Original Series range. The company made a deal with rights holder Sony in July last year to produce at least 13 new episodes.

The new season will return without Yvette Nicole Brown — who played Shirley Bennett in the earlier seasons — but with “Criminal Minds'” Paget Brewster and “The Cape’s” Keith David joining the cast.

In an interview with People, community star Joel McHale noted that the episodes would be “three to four minutes longer” than the NBC show saying it was “more of an HBO-length comedy now”.

This year looks set to be a busy and competitive one for Australian streaming TV services, with Stan and Presto TV already in operation with long-timer Quickflix and the US-based Netflix set to arrive in March.
