With Netflix launching in Australia next month, the US streaming service is now set to come to Fetch TV thanks to a dedicated app on the Fetch TV 2nd Generation box.
The app will be integrated into the Fetch TV platform from day one of Netflix’s local launch — though that official date has yet to be announced — making it the first Australian pay TV service to get Netflix built in.
Fetch TV is an IPTV service that allows users to record live TV through a 1TB set-top box and offers additional features such as a library of roughly 4,000 VOD movie titles, free-to-air catch-up TV apps and apps for streaming your own content to the TV from a media library.
Customers can also add “premium” pay-TV channels to their monthly package, including ESPN and the Disney Channel, as well as “World” TV packages. The whole service can be purchased through an ISP or at retail.
While the main big-name app currently offered through Fetch TV is YouTube, Netflix will bring a great deal more content to the platform, including its raft of original programming, which features titles such as “Marco Polo” and “Bloodline”.
According to Fetch TV CEO Scott Lorson, the Netflix deal is a big win for the Australian-based service.
“Today’s announcement represents a significant milestone for Fetch TV and our partners, and a very exciting development for our 170,000 plus customers,” he said. “Netflix perfectly complements the Fetch TV service. We are now able to offer Australian consumers a world-class integrated entertainment offering at unprecedented value.”
Fetch TV has also confirmed that its partnership with Netflix will include New Zealand “to accommodate planned expansion” by the company into that market.
