Samsung is offering a hefty discount on its Galaxy Note 4 smartphone-tablet hybrid via a rebate.
As displayed on Samsung’s Promotions page, the deal requires you to buy a Galaxy Note 4, after which you can get $200 back via an online rebate. The offer is available from now through July 26 at participating carriers and authorized retailers.
The rebate is valid whether you pay the full retail price for the phone or the subsidized price through the usual two-year contract, according to a Samsung spokeswoman. But the rebate cannot be combined with any other special offers.
Why offer such a healthy rebate on the Note 4 at this point? Usually, such promotions are done for one of two reasons — because of sluggish sales or because a new version of the product is around the corner. In this case, the reason may be the latter. In May, rumors circulated that Samsung would announce the Note 5 in July. But the company vehemently denied those reports. Instead, Samsung is expected to reveal the Note 5 in September, the same month it has unveiled the past two Note models.
The Samsung spokeswoman said that the rebate is part of a Summer Savings promotion for the Note 4.
Scoring the rebate requires certain conditions. First off, Note 4 purchases through Sprint and US Cellular are not permitted, which leaves US buyers a choice of Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile or AT&T. To take advantage of the rebate, you have to be be a legal US resident and submit your claim form by August 26. The offer is limited to three per household. A lengthy copy of the rules are listed in a four-page PDF file posted online.
Outfitted with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED 2,560×1440-pixel display, the Galaxy Note 4 comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage but expandable to 64GB with a microSD card. A 16-megapixel camera faces the rear, while a 3.7-megapixel shooter faces front.
