AT&T is wrapping up the work week by announcing two smartphones for its lineup, the Microsoft Lumia 640 for AT&T’s prepaid GoPhone line, and the Sonim XP5 for AT&T’s usual portfolio.

The Lumia 640 GoPhone is powered by Windows Phone 8.1 and features a 5-inch 1,280×720-pixel display. The rear houses an 8-megapixel camera while the front offers up a 0.9-megapixel sensor.
Running the show is a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM. Internal storage is pegged at 8GB, however the microSD expansion card slot allows for up to 128GB additional space.
As for the Sonim Xp5, it brings an edge of ruggedness to AT&T. Built to withstand the harshest of conditions, the phone trades hardware specs for general functionality. Meeting military specification 810G standards and certified with IP68/IP69 ratings, this one promises to handle dust, water and drops without flinching. The Sonim XP5 also features enhanced push-to-talk capabilities and dual front-facing speakers, both of which should help on outdoor job sites.
AT&T
In terms of specifications, the Sonim XP5’s display is small at 2.4 inches, but that may matter little those who simply need a rough-and-tumble phone that looks like a walkie talkie. It runs a proprietary operating system powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor.
Other hardware found here includes a 5-megapixel rear camera, 4GB of internal storage, and microSD support for 64GB. According to AT&T, the 3,180mAh battery claims that it can last through “back-to-back eight-hour shifts.”
The Lumia 640 comes preloaded with Microsoft Office and retails for $80 with a GoPhone prepaid plan. Meanwhile, you can buy the Sonim XP5 in AT&T retail stores for $100 with a two-year service agreement.
