GoPro recently updated its smartphone application, adding the editing capabilities teased earlier this summer by the company. The feature eliminates the need to wait until you’re near a computer to sync videos off the device, edit and then share.
To use trim-and-share, you’ll need the latest version of the smartphone apps. The iOS version can be found here, while the Android version is here.
The next time you record a video on your GoPro and want to share it, connect your camera to your smartphone via the normal process. After connecting, tap on the gallery button in the lower-left corner of the screen to view the content on your GoPro. Next, tap on the video you want to edit. At the top of the screen will be a new scissors icon; tap on it.
Options to trim the clip into 5, 15 or 30 second clips will then show up. Tap on the time setting, then drag the blue bracket to the proper spot in the video. When you’re happy, tap on the Save button. After a few seconds, the clip will be created and made available for sharing across social networks or email.
If you’d rather share it later, you can always launch the GoPro app and open on the My Media section, where edited clips are saved.
