Consumers eyeing Google’s new Nexus 6P smartphone can save $50 courtesy of a holiday promotion at the company’s online store.
The Nexus 6P discount brings the phone’s price down to $449 for the 32GB flavor, $499 for the 64GB version and $599 for the 128GB edition. That matches a price drop for the Nexus 5X, which has been on sale since December 9, with the 16GB variant of the 5X at $329 for the time being, and the 32GB version at $379.
Free overnight shipping is also part of the deal, at least in the US, and the sale itself ends December 30, according to Google’s website. The offers are good only for consumers in the US and Japan, Engadget reports.
Google’s Nexus phones are unlocked, meaning they aren’t tied to a specific carrier, and they offer a pure Android interface uncluttered by the often unnecessary extras thrown in by the carriers and by third-party manufacturers. You pay a premium price for those benefits, though, so a $50 discount could be enough of a tipping point to convince more people to pick one up for the holidays.
The more midrange 5X has been on sale before, notably on Black Friday when Google slashed its price by $80. But this is the first time the higher-end 6P has gone on sale. Google isn’t your only option if you want the 5X at a budget-friendly price. Best Buy is also selling the phone for $50 off the usual price, with free two-day shipping thrown in.
Built by LG, the 5X has a plastic body and packs a 5.2-inch, 1,920×1,080-pixel display. Made by China-based Huawei, the 6P sports a metal body and offers a 5.7-inch screen with a 2,560×1,440-pixel resolution. Both devices come with a fingerprint sensor for an extra layer of security.
Google has also put other products on its holiday sale list. The Huawei Watch is selling for $399, a discount of $50 off the regular price. Shoppers looking for a Chromebook can save anywhere from $10 to $30 off select models.
