Yezz, a smartphone maker with a taste for the unconventional, is getting in on the GoPro frenzy by announcing a smartphone that takes 360-degree photos and video. The Sfera, as it’s called, will launch at the annual CES conference in January with a pair of specialized 5-megapixel cameras that promise to capture spherical images.

The Sfera uses software to stitch together 360-degree scenes. From what I can tell, it’ll work a bit like Google’s Photo Sphere app, though it’s hard to be sure. There’s also a virtual reality component, where you can place the Sfera phone into a separate viewer to watch a 360-degree video come to life.

The launch of the Yezz Sfera comes at a time when interest in action cameras like the GoPro and virtual reality like Google Cardboard, HTC Vive and Samsung Gear VR is growing. Yezz hopes that it can attract attention to its lesser-known brand by riding the wave.

Yezz will hold a demo next month at CES to show off the phone in person.

As for the rest of the phone, it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and has a 5.5-inch 1080 pixel display. Under the hood is an eight-core 2.2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Yezz said the Sfera is compatible with action camera accessories.
