To paraphrase Cliff Clavin, it’s a little-known fact that Google just updated its Search app for iOS. And as part of that update, iPhone 6S and 6S Plus owners now have easy access to random facts.
How easy? It’s literally just a 3D Touch away. A hard-press of the Google app icon reveals the usual three pop-up menu options — Quick Search, Voice Search and Image Search — along with a new addition: I’m Feeling Curious. Tap that entry and the app immediately looks up and displays a random fact.
In other words, it’s a shortcut to trivia– or at least factoids you can share at your local watering hole. Once you’ve digested the info, you can tap Ask Another Question to get a new fact. Google lists the source of its knowledge nugget right below the answer.
Don’t have an iPhone 6S? You can type “I’m feeling curious” into any Google search bar in any browser (desktop or mobile).
Google Search is among a growing number of apps to leverage Apple’s 3D Touch capabilities. Driving app Waze introduced a Touch menu back in November, while Facebook and Microsoft Office have been similarly endowed. Apple’s own Weather app gets the 3D Touch treatment with the release of iOS 9.3.
What’s your favorite use of 3D Touch so far?
