14-Year-Old Girl Set Ablaze By Stalker In Tamil Nadu For Rejecting Proposal, Battling For Life

In a shocking crime, a 14-year-old school student in Tamil Nadu was doused with petrol and set ablaze by a man because she rejected his marriage offer. The spine chilling crime happened on Friday in Madurai district’s Naduvakottai when the teenager was on her way back from school.

According to the girl’s family, the man identified as 22-year-old Balamurugan, a spinning mill daily-wage worker, doused her with petrol and set her on fire.

By the time her mother who was passing by on an auto and the driver of the vehicle managed to put out the fire, the girl had suffered nearly 70 per cent burns, mostly in the upper body.

The girl who has been admitted in a local hospital, continues to be in a critical condition. According to the victim’s elder brother, the accused, Balamurugan, who is yet to be arrested, has been harassing the girl for sometime saying he wanted to marry her.

He even had gone to the girl’s home with a sickle and a rope, demanding to give the girl in marriage to her, failing which he threatened suicide.

On Friday, police said, Balamurugan came on a motorbike as the girl was returning from school with other students.   

He threw petrol on the girl as she came closer, set her on fire and left the spot immediately leaving behind his two wheeler.
