76 Villages In Assam Submerged After Dam Gates Opened Following Heavy Rains; People Evacuated

Seventy-six villages in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have been completely submerged in water after heavy rains led to the Ranganadi dam being opened. Lives of thousands of people have been affected.

On Thursday, due to the overflow of water, the NEEPCO authorities were compelled to open the three gates of the Ranganadi dam.

The release of dam water has submerged 76 villages in Lakhimpur district, impacting nearly 25,000 people. Waters have damaged 3,560 hectares of standing crop.

People were alerted before the water was released.

More than One lakh people have been affected by the heavy rains and flash floods in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
