26/11 Mastermind Hafiz Saeed's Bank Accounts Have Been Restored. Here's How It Happened

Pakistan has restored bank accounts of JuD chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed having got it approved by the Sanctions Committee of the United Nations Security Council, as per a TNN report.

Other terrorists who have their accounts restored are Abdul Salam Bhuttavi, Haji M Ashraf, Yahya Mujahid and Zafar Iqbal, as reported by the media in Pakistan.

In June, an anti-terrorism court had indicted Saeed and his close aides in a terror-financing case.

23 FIRs have been registered against 70-year-old Saeed and his accomplices on the charges of terror financing in different cities of the province by Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab police.

Saeed is a United Nations designated terrorist and the US has placed a USD 10 million bounty on his head.

“All of them are UNSC’s enlisted terrorists though and currently facing sentences ranging 1 to 5 years in Lahore jail for terror financing cases filed against them by the Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD),” The News said.

As per the Pakistani media, Saeed and other terrorists had appealed the United Nations for restoring their bank accounts so that they could run their family affairs.

However, the request was most likely made by the Imran Khan government on behalf of the terrorists.

Last year in October, Pakistan had requested to the UNSC’s anti-terror committee to allow Saeed to get “pocket money” from his bank account for basic expenses.

Reacting over this development, India called the situation weird saying said that Pakistan’s application had exposed its duplicity.

The UNSC’s sanctions committee had allowed Saeed to withdraw money from his bank account for covering basic expenses in September.
